Tree Removal Safety Precautions

The Earth is dependent on trees, just as it is on water. Trees not only give us carbon dioxide and oxygen for breathing, but they give us shelter, shade and beautiful scenery. We use them for recreation as a walking path to our happiest, most serene places.

We also use them as tools, like when we tie off our hammocks for an afternoon siesta. As you can see, trees’ purposes are endless, so any kind of removal of a tree should be well thought out and completely necessary.

With that said, let’s take a closer look at the tree removal process.

Removal Of A Tree

Understandably, there are many reasons beyond our control to remove a tree. Perhaps it’s a dead or diseased tree that poses danger to our property or home. Maybe the tree must be taken down for safety, as it’s growing out toward power lines.

For whatever reasons, there are a few guidelines to follow if you are going to be taking down a tree yourself. While we advise against doing this work yourself, there are certain precautions to take, if you are going to.

But be advised: you should always consult with a tree expert before attempting any of this work.

  • Wear The Right Safety Equipment. One of the most important things is to remember to wear all the necessary safety gear. Again, we can not stress enough how preparation can make all the difference in avoiding accidents.

If you are going to do any tree cutting, experts recommend a logger’s helmet, earmuffs, safety glasses and Kevlar caps. Also, make sure to check the work area, afterward, to ensure everything is put away.
  • Estimate The Trees Felling Zone Properly. Just eyeing the visual falling space of a tree may not be enough. Professionals suggest using the ‘ax handle trick’ to determine the tree’s felling zone.

Hold the ax at arm’s length while you’re closing one eye. After this, you can move toward or away from the tree until the top portion of the ax is even with the bottom and the treetop.
